Wood Girls Win Cross Country District Mini

WINCHESTER — Millbrook’s boys’ cross country team placed all five runners in the top 12 overall to win the Northwestern District Mini Meet No. 1 at The Third Battle of Winchester Battlefield course on Wednesday.

Kevin Kleinegger led the way for the Pioneers, taking fourth in 18 minutes, 17 seconds. The rest of the Pioneers’ scoring five included John Pullen (sixth, 18:35), Justin Sharp (eighth, 18:44), Gabriel Espinoza (10th, 18:58) and Tod Hart (12th, 19:36).

Millbrook finished with 40 points, edging runner-up James Wood (49). Handley (69) took third, Sherando (98) came in fourth, and Skyline (122) followed in fifth.

James Wood’s Max Lindquist finished as the runner-up (17:58) to pace the Colonels. Ethan Pierce (fifth, 18:19), Aaron Curd (13th, 19:39), Jacksen Costa (14th, 19:40) and David Dorsey (15th, 19:41) completed the Colonels’ scoring five.

Handley’s John Delaney took first overall in 17:48, finishing 10 seconds ahead of Lindquist. Brinn Enders (ninth, 18:45), Brian Tufts (18th, 19:50), Bennett Crow (19th, 19:51) and Andrew Dearth (23rd, 20:14) completed the Judges’ top five.

Isaac Chapman (seventh, 18:37) paced Sherando. Jacob Carr (11th, 19:26), Ian Delaughter (25th, 20:20), Lucas Williams (32nd, 21:06) and Jacob Lewis (37th, 21:16) rounded out the Warriors’ scoring runners.

In the girls’ race, Autumn Hottle led five James Wood runners in the top 12 overall as the Colonels won the team title with 36 points.

Handley (61) finished as the runner-up, Millbrook (64) came in third, Sherando (91) took fourth, and Skyline (116) followed in fifth.

In addition to Hottle, the Colonels’ top five included Maria Harter (fifth, 22:51), Mackenzie Konyar (sixth, 22:53), Lydia Sunderlin (10th, 23:31), and Claire Bright (11th, 23:52).

Josie Sydnor (third, 22:37) led the way for Handley. Desi Morefield (12th, 23:57), Amanda Kesler (13th, 23:59), Alisa Dayo (16th, 24:58) and Catherine Love (17th, 25:18) completed the Judges’ top five.

Millbrook’s Mellany Groll (21:50) finished as the runner-up to pace the Pioneers. Maddie Lloyd (seventh, 23:12), Sophie Edlich (eighth, 23:26), Sydney Sharp (24th, 25:53) and Katie Borland (28th, 27:19) rounded out the Pioneers’ scoring five.

Sherando’s Gillian Liedke (ninth, 23:29) paced the Warriors. Hannah Lothrop (15th, 24:45), Emily Petsko (21st, 25:39), Ellen Lunde (22nd, 25:42) and Katie Toomey (30th, 27:30) completed the Warriors’ top five.

Skyline’s Carrie Hotek (21:15) won the girls’ race.

Several top runners from each area team did not compete on Wednesday.
