Boys’ Cross Country - Colonels take 3rd at Central

WOODSTOCK — Kevin Konyar and Josh Arce each placed in the top 10 overall to lead James Wood to third place in the 11-team Central Invitational on Saturday.

Konyar placed eighth in 16 minutes, 42 seconds and Arce followed in 10th with a time of 16:58 on the three-mile course. Nathan Shade (20th, 17:31), David Dorsey (32nd, 18:07) and Ethan Pierce (36th, 18:18) rounded out the Colonels’ top five.

Central won the boys’ team title with 53 points. Riverside (60), James Wood (93), Millbrook (102) and Clarke County (139) followed in the top five.

Brad Hambrick (13th, 17:17) and John Pullen (14th, 17:18) paced the Pioneers’ fourth-place effort. Justin Sharp (22nd, 17:35), Dylan Wallace (29th, 18:01) and Angus Derrick (33rd, 18:08) completed Millbrook’s scoring five.

Clarke’s Nick Dawson (16:35) finished sixth overall as the top area runner in the boys’ race. Connor Hanson (11th, 17:16), Kyle Erickson (21st, 17:33), Spencer Jackson (52nd, 18:57) and Josh Hinton (71st, 19:37) completed the top five for Clarke — who did not have Chase Ervin in the lineup.

Virginia Episcopal’s Daniel O’Brien won the race in 15:56.
