James Wood boys, girls take team titles at Central Invitational

WOODSTOCK — James Wood’s Kenzie Konyar and Ethan Pierce took first place in the girls’ and boys’ divisions, respectively, to lead the Colonels to team titles at the Central Invitational cross country meet on Saturday.

The James Wood boys won a tight race with Millbrook as the Colonels totaled 45 points to edge the Pioneers (49) by four. Warren County 126 was a distant third. Sherando (168) placed sixth and Clarke County (224) was ninth in 12-team field.

The James Wood girls (58) also edged Millbrook (73) for the top spot. Sherando (107) was fourth and Clarke County (173) placed eighth in the 10-team field.

In the boys’ event, Pierce covered the 3.1-mile course in 16 minutes, 15 seconds. Pierce was followed by Millbrook’s Brad Hambrick (16:22), Wood’s Nathan Shade (16:26.14) and Sherando’s James Harris (16:26.89). Connor Hanson (16th, 16:59) was the top finisher for Clarke County.

Konyar (19:13) held off Clarke County’s Skylar Bragg (19:19) for the girls’ individual title. Millbrook’s Angelina Guerrero (19:29) placed fifth. Molly Robinson (11th, 20:14) was the top finisher for Sherando.
