Cross Country
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — Handley High School’s boys and girls cross country teams defeated James Wood in Northwestern District dual matches as part of a three-team race at Jefferson (W.Va.) Wednesday.
Led by top overall finisher Britani Myers (19:05), the Handley girls scored 33 points in the tri-meet. Jefferson had 37 and James Wood 57.
Cindy Quarles finished fourth overall (20:01) for the Judges. Courtney Feathers (8th place, 21:11), Hannah Bacon (9th, 21:20) and Claire Bridgeforth (11th, 21:39) rounded out Handley’s top five.
Tom Delaney won the boys’ race with a time of 16:29, as Handley defeated James Wood 23-34 in their dual.
Jefferson won the overall tri with a score of 34, followed by Handley’s 38 and James Wood’s 54 when factoring in all three teams.
Chris Arslan (6th overall, 17:17), Jim Thomson (7th, 17:18), Paul Sweeney (9th, 17:36) and Edgar Ramirez (15th, 18:03) rounded out the Judges’ scoring.
David Pugh finished second overall (16:47) to pace the Colonels, and James Wood’s Blake Armstrong chipped in with an eighth place finish (17:19).
