Konyar places second to pace James Wood at Oatlands
LEESBURG — James Wood’s Kate Konyar placed second overall to lead area runners competing in the annual Oatlands Invitational cross country meet on Saturday.
Konyar’s performance helped the Colonels (135 points) place third overall among 31 teams in the Girls’ Varsity A field. Blacksburg (123) took the team title, while Tuscarora (132) was second. Clarke County (473) placed 16th and Sherando (693) was 28th. Handley elected to have its team run in the Varsity B Division.
Konyar coverered the 3.1-mile course in 19 minutes, 21 seconds. Albemarle’s Madelyn Gypson won in 19:07.
In the boys’ meet, Handley’s Will Pardue placed fifth and James Wood’s Ethan Pratt-Perez was sixth to pace local finishers. Pardue, one of two Judges to participate in the A Division, ran 16:09, while Pratt-Perez was just a second behind him in 16:10. James Partlow of Gov. Thomas Johnson High won in 15:59.
Blacksburg (101) won the 40-team boys’ meet by 40 points over St. Albans. Sherando (549) was the top local finisher in 22nd, while James Wood (703) was 29th and Clarke County (747) was 30th.
