Cross country: Handley sweeps meet at Millbrook

WINCHESTER — The Handley boys' and girls' teams were each victorious in a seven-team on Wednesday at Millbrook's Third Battle of Winchester Course, with James Wood's Eli Clark (boys) and Kate Konyar (girls) taking the individual titles.

The Handley boys won by seven points with 43 points. The Judges were followed by James Wood (second, 50), Skyline (third, 75), Sherando (fourth, 114), Clarke County (fifth, 136), Warren County (sixth, 138) and Millbrook (seventh, 146).

Clark, a senior, recorded a 3.1-mile time of 16 minutes, 44.11 seconds to win by 25.21 seconds over Skyline's Louden Schucker (17:09.32). There were 104 finishers.

The Judges were led by sophomore Halston Wright (fourth, 17:43.02), sophomore Noah Meleason (sixth, 18:25.04), senior Matthew Doran (eighth, 18:27.17), junior Finn Slaughter (12th, 18:49.36) and sophomore Everett Otto (13th, 18:50.27).

The Handley girls scored 52 points to win by 12 points. The Judges were followed by James Wood (second, 64), Millbrook (third, 72), Warren County (fourth, 92), Skyline (fifth, 125), Clarke County (sixth, 159) and Sherando (seventh, 161).

Konyar, a junior, won by 52.37 seconds with a time of 19:30.85. Handley sophomore EJ Mullins was second in 20:23.22.

The Judges were also led by sophomore Sage Welpott (11th, 22:32.39), junior Ella Warren (12th, 22:33.03), Stephanie Truban (13th, 22:47.06) and sophomore Seneca Welpott (14th, 22:47.55).
