Wood's Konyar second at Albemarle Invitational
EARLYSVILLE — James Wood High School junior Kate Konyar placed second out of 161 runners in the girls' cross country race on Saturday in the Albemarle Invitational at Panorama Farms.
Konyar recorded a 3.1-mile time of 18 minutes, 6.5 seconds. The winner was Charlottesville junior Elaina Pierce in 17:27.7. Pierce and Konyar are the top two returning runners in Class 4, taking third and fifth, respectively, last year.
James Wood placed eighth out of 22 teams with 227 points. Spotswood won with 76, West Springfield was second with 78 and Millbrook placed 13th with 330.
Albemarle won the 28-team boys' race with 100 points. Hanover was second with 157, James Wood placed 20th with 458 and Millbrook was 23rd with 640.
Colonels senior Eli Clark was the top local finisher in the boys' race, placing 38th in 16:55.4. Broadway senior Triston Yoder won the 214-boy race by 14.5 seconds in 15:25.7.
