WINCHESTER — James Wood High School seniors Mel Savarese and A.J. Eubank are getting ready to go from teammates to enemies on the gridiron.
Having played together for all four years with the Colonels, as well as in youth football growing up, Savarese and Eubank will line up on opposite sidelines in the fall.
A two-year starter at tight end and defensive end, Savarese has committed to play football at Hampden-Sydney College in Farmville, while Eubank, a three-year starting linebacker, will be playing for Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Randolph-Macon College in the fall.
A two-sport athlete (football and baseball), Eubank was an All-Northwestern District second team selection after finishing his senior season with 86 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, three fumble recoveries and three pass break-ups.
Savarese has been a three-sport standout for James Wood (football, basketball and soccer) and was an all-district first team selection on offense and a second team selection on defense.
Savarese totaled 20 catches, 245 yards receiving and two touchdowns to go along with 33 tackles and six sacks.
