James Wood faces Panthers in playoffs

WINCHESTER — James Wood High School football coach Mike Bolin hopes he might have started an annual tradition.

Rather than hammer his players with what they did wrong following the team’s 17-10 loss to rival Handley in the team’s season finale, he hammered them with “the gauntlet” a series of conditioning drills that turned out to be more fun than the players could have imagined and helped put their disappointment behind them.

The end result is a team as focused as can be heading into tonight’s Region II Division 4 semifinal matchup. No. 3 James Wood (8-2) will travel to Sterling for a 7:30 p.m. game against No. 2 Potomac Falls (9-1).
