Sterling — After the James Wood High School football team found itself down 10-7 at halftime because of a late 58-yard fumble return for a touchdown, Colonels defensive end Jared Broughear got the Colonels fired up for the second half by telling them they were better than Potomac Falls.

James Wood spent much of the second half proving him right, but another big play proved to be too much for the Colonels to survive.

Second-seeded Potomac Falls defeated No. 3 James Wood 26-17 Friday night at Panther Stadium in the Region II Division 4 semifinals, rallying from a 17-13 deficit with 8:26 remaining as a result of two touchdowns. Gregory Woodlief’s 41-yard pass to Chad McMichael set up a 6-yard Michael Baker touchdown run with 6:37 remaining, and the Colonels never came close to challenging again.
