Wood grad DeHaven named All-South Region
BRIDGEWATER — Bridgewater College sophomore kicker Chandler DeHaven, a James Wood graduate, has been named to the 2013 D3football.com All-South Region first team following the completion of an outstanding season for the Eagles football team.
The honor for DeHaven comes on the heels of his selection to the All-ODAC first team in a vote by the league’s head coaches. With the honor, DeHaven becomes Bridgewater;s first selection to the first team since Tyler Beiler was tabbed to the first team and named the region’s top offensive player in 2010.
DeHaven was tabbed to the all-region first team for the first time in his career after turning in an outstanding sophomore campaign. The Winchester native and tied the school record with 13 made field goals, tying All-American Mike Padgett's mark set in 1998. DeHaven ranked sixth in the nation in made field goals at the end of the regular season.
The sophomore connected on multiple field goals in five games, including a career-high and school-record tying three field goals against Ferrum.
Later in the season, DeHaven booted a career-long 46-yarder against Emory & Henry, while converting three field goals of 40 or more yards on the year.
DeHaven is now eligible for the 2013 D3football.com All-America team, which will be announced following the conclusion of the 41st edition of the Stagg Bowl in Salem.
