All-Northwestern District Football Team
Handley running back Manno Lusca and Sherando defensive end Jamaal Nowlin were named Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year as the coaches’ Class 4 All-Northwestern District football teams were announced on Wednesday.
Handley junior Hassan Akanbi was a three-time First Team selection (running back, punt returner and kickoff returner), while linebacker Lusca (Sr.) and Judges’ lineman Jaishaun Offutt (Jr.) were both First Team selections on offense and defense.
Other First Team offensive selections were: Handley: tight end Breylon Miller (Sr.); Millbrook: running back Kyler Jackson (Jr.); running back Tyson Mallory (Sr.), tight end Cole Purdy (Sr.), offensive lineman Ty Jahnigen (Jr.), all-purpose Jonah Mihill (Sr.); Sherando: offensive lineman Ethan Gonzalez (Sr.), receiver Brady Hamilton (Sr.), placekicker Noah Smith (Sr.); James Wood: center Jack Thompson (Sr.), receiver Sam Jackson (Sr.).
Joining Jamaal Nowlin (Sr.) on the First Team defense from Sherando were defensive end Kaleb Nowlin (Jr.), tackle Hunter Ratchford (Jr.), linebacker James Walters (Jr.), defensive back Jake Dann (Sr.), defensive back Hayden LaFever (Jr.) and punter Micah Carlson (Jr.).
Other First Team defensive selections were: Handley: tackle Logan Vollmers (Sr.), defensive back Pat Burks (Jr.), all-purpose Gavin Williams (So.); Millbrook: linebacker Fernando Martinez (Sr.), defensive back Ryan Hecker (Sr.); James Wood: linebacker Zach Smith (Sr.).
Handley’s Jake Smith was named the Coach of the Year after leading the Judges to a 7-3 record, including 4-0 in Class 4 Northwestern District games.
Second Team offensive selections were: Sherando: quarterback Carlson; running back Christian Ruiz (Sr.), center Jarrett See (So.), lineman Parker Fredman (Jr.), tight end Smith, kick returner Hamilton; Handley: lineman Jaiquan Offutt (So.), all-purpose Christian Metzger, receiver Burks; Millbrook: lineman Jacob Wiseman (Sr.), kicker Garrett Johnson (Sr.); James Wood: running back Dominik Ramirez (So.), running back Elijah Richards (Sr.), lineman Colton Lanham (Sr.).
Second Team defensive selections were: Millbrook: defensive end Purdy, linebacker and all-purpose Cohen Creswell (Sr.), defensive back Jackson, punter Mallory; James Wood: linebacker Vincent Salvati (Jr.), defensive back Justin Gwinner (Jr.); Handley: lineman Carson Green (So.), linebacker Jo-Jo Johnson (So.); Sherando: defensive back Tucker LaFever (Jr.), linebacker Breiden Lowery (Jr.), punt returner Hamilton.
