Region 4D - Football Team
Region 4D champion Sherando captured the Offensive Player of the Year (Micah Carlson) and Coach of the Year (T.J. Rorhrbaugh) awards and Handley’s Jo-Jo Johnson was named the Defensive Player of the Year to highlight the All-Region 4D selections that were released on Monday.
Sherando had 14 total selections (seven First Team) and Handley had 16 selections (five First Team). James Wood had five selections and Millbrook had two.
A senior quarterback, Carlson completed 113 of 177 passes (63.8 percent) for 1,588 yards, 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions passing and ran 149 times for 1,009 yards (a 6.7 average) and 19 TDs.
Rohrbaugh guided the Warriors to a 12-2 record and a spot in the Class 4 state semifinals, losing to defending champion Phoebus 34-0 on Saturday. Sherando won its most games since 2013, its first region title since 2017 and captured the Class 4 Northwestern District title with a 4-0 record.
A junior linebacker, Johnson led the Judges in tackles with 136 (68 solo), including 27 for a loss. The Northwestern District Defensive Player of the Year also had three sacks, two forced fumbles and two pass breakups.
Joining Carlson on the Offensive First Team are junior center Jarrett See and senior lineman Parker Fredman from Sherando, and senior lineman Jaishaun Offutt, senior running back Hassan Akanbi, junior wide receiver Will Yoder and freshman Triston Darling for Handley. Darling is a quarterback who earned All-Purpose honors.
Defensive First Team selections besides Johnson are Sherando’s Kaleb Nowlin (senior lineman), James Walters and Breiden “BB” Lowery (senior linebackers), and senior defensive back Tucker LaFever.
Offensive Second Team selections are Sherando senior wide receiver Aiden Leatch, Millbrook senior lineman Ty Jahnigen and Handley freshman center Tyler Davis.
Defensive Second Team selections are Carlson at punter, Sherando senior lineman Hunter Ratchford, sophomore linebacker Pete Carter and senior defensive back Hayden LaFever; James Wood senior lineman Jordyn Sweetser and senior linebacker Vincent Salvati; and Handley junior defensive back Gavin Williams.
Offensive Honorable Mention selections are Handley junior offensive lineman Jaiquan Offutt, junior kicker Josh Newcome and sophomore kick returner Rylan Stribling; James Wood senior running back Kobe Mason, junior wide receiver Xander Manzo and sophomore wide receiver Xavier Price; and Sherando senior lineman Kaden Hurst.
Defensive Honorable Mention selections are Handley linemen Jaishaun Offutt and senior lineman Carson Green, junior linebacker Trent Gomez, junior Jamir Washington (all-purpose selection, defensive back), Akanbi at punt returner and senior Jackson Justice at punter; Sherando senior lineman Ben Taylor; and Millbrook junior linebacker Chris Bradford (all-purpose selection, linebacker).
