WINCHESTER- Three future construction projects could enhance the campus of James Wood High School near the football stadium.

The Frederick County School Board on Tuesday approved the projects, which were proposed by the school's Touchdown Club.

They include installing a 10-foot-high archway at the top of the steps leading down to the athletic fields; installing an asphalt walkway from the ticket booth to the south end of the stadium bleachers; and laying a brick patio near the south end of the bleachers.

The club would sell engraved pavers for the patio to supporters to assist with the funding for the work.

The Touchdown Club is a nonprofit organization that provides support and "a positive surrounding" for James Wood football.

The work will be done by Carroll Construction Co. of Winchester. All final designs as well as criteria for the information to be included on the brick patio need to be approved by school Principal Joe Salyer and the Building and Grounds Department.

No timeline was provided for the start or completion of the projects, and no cost estimates were given.

Present at the meeting were Superintendent David Sovine and School Board members John Lamanna, Chair Stuart Wolk, Jody Wall, David Zerull, Benjamin Waterman, Peggy Clark and Jim Harmon.
