Stonier’s interception keys Wood’s victory

Stephens City — Devin Stonier had been hearing it all night from his James Wood High School football coaches.

“Get to the flats. Get to the flats.”

With the game on the line late in the fourth quarter, defensive coordinator Tim Combs took the decision out of Stonier’s hands.

Combs called for a “Mad Dog” defense, a 3-5 formation that allows the outside linebackers to commit solely to pass coverage.

From there, Stonier leapt in front of a Ross Metheny pass and returned it 89 yards to the Warriors’ 3-yard line, a play that proved crucial in James Wood’s 17-14 win at Arrowhead Stadium.
