Colonels to dedicate "Pathway of Pride" before game

October 20, 2011

From Star staff reports

WINCHESTER- The James Wood Touchdown Club will be holding a dedication ceremony for its "Pathway of Pride" prior to Friday's football game between the Colonels and the Millbrook Pioneers.

The "Pathway of Pride" is a brick path that has been installed at the entrance to Kelican Stadium. Anyone can purchase an 4-by-8 brick that will display their name, with all proceeds going to benefit the James Wood football team.

Scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., the ceremony will honor four "Cornerstones" of James Wood Pride - JWHS principal Don Shirley, former JWHS administrator Wendell Dick, former JWHS coach Walter Barr and former JWHS coach and AD Jim Casey - with 8-by-8 bricks along the border of the path for their past and present contributions to James Wood and its students.

The "Pathway of Pride" is an ongoing project, with the hopes that it will eventually stretch all the way to the press box. An 11-foot arch was also donated to stand at the beginning of the path.
