Golf: Wood captures first district mini

JEFFERSONTON — James Wood opened the season by capturing a Class 4 Northwestern District mini tournament on Monday by 14 strokes at the South Wales Golf Course with a four-player score of 318.

The Colonels were led by senior Brayden Rockwell, who shot a 1-under par 70 to win by 10 strokes over three other golfers.

James Wood was followed in the team standings by Millbrook (332), Liberty (333), Handley (351) and Sherando (358).

Other James Wood leaders: Jake Bursey 80, Ian Longo 81, Lauren Van Horn 87.

Millbrook leaders: Tyler Learn 80, Dylan Reich 81, Trenton Conley 81, Jude McGee 90.

Handley leaders: Nash Sharma 83, Hudson Slaughter 88, John Casella 89, Finn Slaughter and Lang Shickle (91 each, tie for fourth).

Sherando leaders: Landon Rust 82, TJ Selznick 88, Jackson Hepner 94, Sam Brooks 94.
