HARRISONBURG — None of the five local golfers in Tuesday’s Zone 5 qualifier at Heritage Oaks Golf Course qualified for the Virginia High School League girls’ golf state tournament.
The top 15 percent (top eight) in the 51-golfer field advanced to state competition, and 81 was the cutoff.
James Wood seniors Laney Stiles and Lauren Van Horn tied for 20th by shooting 89 each. Handley freshman Mariska Sharma placed 36th (106), Judges junior Sofia Bogaty took 37th (111) and Colonels sophomore Paige Littman placed 42nd (120).
Western Albemarle senior Elsie MacCleery won the tournament by three strokes with a 66. MacCleery captured the girls’ state title in 2021 and 2022 and was the runner-up in 2023. Committed to the University of Virginia, MacCleery was the Class 3 co-ed state champion in 2023.
