Colonels upset Warriors in semis

STEPHENS CITY — Two Frederick County High Schools will play for the Northwestern District volleyball tournament championship Thursday night, but 
regular-season champion Sherando won’t be one of them.
Fourth-seeded James Wood took care of that with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-20) victory over the Warriors Tuesday night in the tournament semifinals at Sherando.
The Colonels (16-6) jumped out to a big lead in the opening game and never looked back in sending the Warriors (18-4) home earlier than just about anyone in the crowd expected.
As a reward, Wood earned a Thursday night date at second-seeded Millbrook for a 7 p.m. championship contest. In addition to the tournament title being on the line, the two teams will be battling to join Sherando in next week’s Region II Tournament. The Warriors secured their berth in the regional by winning the regular-season title.
