Volleyball Season Ends in District Tournament
Winchester — When the Millbrook High School volleyball team won the first Northwestern District semifinal on Tuesday night, it was assumed the Pioneers would root for a rematch against Sherando, which would automatically send them into the Region II tournament.
At least that’s how Millbrook coach Jen McCullough felt.
“I was the one who wanted to play Sherando,” McCullough said. “Everybody else was saying, ‘Well, James Wood is closer to us and they’re a little bit more of a rival.’ I’m like, ‘Who cares, let’s play Sherando.’ (When Wood advanced) the girls were happy. They were living on the edge.”
It turns out the No. 4-seeded Colonels took Millbrook right to the edge in Thursday’s district championship, but the No. 2 Pioneers again fought back, winning the final two games and taking the match 3-2 (27-25, 19-25, 14-25, 25-18, 15-7) to repeat as tournament champions.
