James Wood Volleyball Wins Tourney Title

VIRGINIA BEACH — James Wood won all five matches to win the Third Degree Tournament of Champions volleyball title at the Virginia Beach Field House on Saturday.

The Colonels defeated Oscar Smith, Tabb, Yorktown and Southampton (2-1) to reach the finals. In the championship match, Wood defeated Cape Henry 2-1, winning the third set 18-16.

James Wood junior setter Ashley Hillyard (68 assists in the tournament) and junior outside hitter Lindsey Painter (39 kills) were named to the all-tournament team.

Colonels junior libero Ally Iden had 60 digs, and senior Brandi Griffith led the way with 15 aces. Freshman middle blocker Taylor Heishman had four blocks.
