Salyer signs at D-II school
Winchester — James Wood High School senior April Salyer signed a letter of intent Friday to play volleyball at Division II West Liberty State College, Colonels coach Jill Lester said.
Salyer played as a back-row defensive specialist for James Wood, and Lester said she impressed West Liberty coach Brooke Turner with her consistency.
“Not only is she a consistent passer, but she has a very consistent jump-float serve,” Lester said. “She’s a very smart defender. She knows where to be and has court awareness.... All those are characteristics that coach Turner was looking for and I could assure that April had.”
Located in West Liberty, W.Va., the school competes in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Salyer plans to major in dental hygiene.
