Volleyball - All Northwestern District Team
Millbrook senior outside hitter Abigail Koeller was named the Class 4 Northwestern District Volleyball Player of the Year in selections released on Friday.
Koeller has helped Millbrook to an 19-4 record and a berth in the Class 4 Region semifinals. The Pioneers will play at six-time defending state champion Loudoun County at 7 p.m. on Monday in the Region 4C semifinals. The winner will advance to Wednesday’s championship match against the Fauquier-Heritage winner and earn a spot in the Class 4 state tournament.
Joining Koeller on the first team are teammates Tori Johnson, a junior outside hitter, and senior setter Jordan Reid. James Wood senior outside hitter Jessica Putnam and senior middle blocker Gillian Kleiderlein also made the first team.
Second team-selections are James Wood senior right side Taylor Robinson and senior libero Yeakley Pullen; Handley senior outside hitter Neysha Washington and senior middle blocker Chloe Putnam; and Sherando senior middle blocker Mackenzie English.
Honorable mention selections are Handley senior middle blocker Reese Walker and senior setter Caitlin Varela; and James Wood senior defensive specialist Kate Poppo.
Fauquier’s Diana Story was named the district Coach of the Year. The 19-4 Falcons went 13-1 against district opponents this year, winning the regular-season title with an 11-1 mark and taking the tournament title with a 3-1 win over Millbrook on Thursday.
