Three James Wood volleyball players sign with colleges
ames Wood volleyball players Jessica Putnam (University of Cumberlands) and Kate Poppo and Ryenne Terenzi (Shenandoah University) each signed to compete at the collegiate level in a ceremony at the school’s library on Friday.
An outside hitter, Putnam ranked first on the team in kills (181) through James Wood matches as of Oct. 17. She also was second in digs (121), third in blocks (15) and fourth in aces (24). She is a first-team Class 4 All-Northwestern District selection and a second team All-Region 4C pick.
Cumberlands is an NAIA school that is located in Williamsburg, Ky. Members of the Mid-South Conference, the Patriots went 22-13 overall and 7-7 in league play this year.
An outside hitter and defensive specialist, Poppo ranked third on the team in both digs (106) and aces (26) as of Oct. 17. She was an all-district honorable mention selection this season. The middle hitter Terenzi ranked second on the team in aces (27) as of Oct. 17.
Shenandoah went 10-16 overall and 4-8 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference this season. The Hornets’ roster includes former Colonel Megan Hillyard, a sophomore setter.
The trio of players helped James Wood compile a 16-8 overall record and a 9-3 district record, which was good for third place.
