James Wood volleyball coach Hillyard resigns
WINCHESTER — P.W. Hillyard, who led the James Wood High School volleyball team to the Class 4 state tournament in 2016, has resigned after three seasons as the Colonels coach.
Hillyard’s teams amassed a 53-22 record. The Colonels finished 16-8 this past season and advanced to the Northwestern District semifinals.
Prior to assuming the varsity position, Hillyard led the school’s JV program for two seasons.
“Coach Hillyard did an outstanding job as soon as he took over the program in 2016, leading the team to the state tournament in a highly competitive region,” James Wood Coordinator of Student Activities Craig Woshner said in a news release. “As a James Wood Hall of Fame athlete himself, Coach Hillyard has always challenged his teams to give their best effort on the floor and in the classroom. I am grateful for the dedication and effort he has given to the program.”
