James Wood athletes make college choices
WINCHESTER — James Wood cross country and track & field athlete Kevin Konyar and Colonels volleyball player Morgan Biggs signed to compete with NCAA Division II Bloomsburg University and Division III Dickinson College, respectively, in a ceromony on Thursday at James Wood High School.
In cross country, Konyar placed fourth in the Class 4 Northwestern District meet to advance to the Region 4C meet this year. Konyar recorded a personal best of 16:28 for the 3.1-mile distance at the Third Battle Invitational. Konyar was a Winchester Star all-area selection. In track, Konyar has PRs of 10:20 for the 3,200 meters and 5:00 for the 1,600.
Bloomsburg competes in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. In cross country, the Huskies took sixth in the PSAC Championships and sixth in the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships in the fall. In track last year, Bloomsburg took 12th in both the indoor and outdoor PSAC meet.
Konyar holds a 3.87 GPA and plans to major in exercise science.
A three-year varsity volleyball player, Biggs was named to the second team for both the the Class 4 Northwestern District and Winchester Star this year. A hitter, Biggs finished the 2017 season with 144 kills, 44 aces and 66 blocks.
Dickinson is located in Carlisle, Pa., and competes in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils went 9-17 overall and 2-8 in conference play this year.
An all-district academic selection, Biggs holds a 4.06 GPA and plans to major in biochemistry and molecular biology.
