Frederick County Public Schools: 8th graders will be allowed on JV sports teams in 2025
WINCHESTER — Starting in 2025, eighth graders in Frederick County Public Schools will be eligible to compete on select sub-varsity (junior varsity/JV) sports teams, according to a news update on the division’s website.
Baseball, softball and girls’ and boys’ soccer are part of the initiative.
“This is a great chance for students to be involved in athletics and develop their skills as they prepare for high school sports,” the update states.
Eligible students must have a D (60%) or higher in at least five classes on their report card at the end of this semester. Students also must have a physical examination form on file to try out for teams or attend preseason workouts.
A non-refundable $75 fee is required for team members. It must be paid prior to the team’s first official game.
Parents and guardians are responsible for their athletes’ transportation to all games and practices.
Any eighth grader who is interested in trying out for a JV team should fill out an interest form at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe_TvB5OdYJGb-e-HeCOrFf93DwQl8ATtJdWH5aF38965Xecw/viewform by Jan. 31.
