WINCHESTER — James Wood High School named Brent Lockhart as its new varsity baseball coach Friday.
A 2003 graduate of James Wood, Lockhart succeeds Jared Mounts who resigned in June after leading the Colonels for the past 11 seasons.
Lockhart is no stranger to the Colonels baseball program. He played both baseball and football while a student at James Wood before going on to play baseball for two years at both Potomac State College and West Virginia University.
Lockhart earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education and athletic coaching education at West Virginia University in May of 2008.
He served as a volunteer coach for James Wood’s junior varsity baseball team in 2008 and has been the school’s head JV coach since 2009.
“I’m very excited to have the opportunity to serve as the varsity baseball coach at James Wood,” said Lockhart in a press release. “I’ve enjoyed working with the school’s student-athletes, their parents and [the] school’s administration over the past five years. I’m thankful that I’m able to give back to the school that provided me with the foundation necessary to be successful both on and off the baseball field.”
