Wood Baseball Edges Warriors In 10 Innings

WINCHESTER — James Wood senior Canon Cochran scored on an error in the bottom of the 10th, giving the Colonels a 2-1 Northwestern District baseball victory over Sherando at R. Charles Hott Field on Tuesday night.

Cochran reached on an error with two outs in the bottom of the 10th, and advanced to second after a balk called on Sherando reliever Ty Michaud.

After Michaud intentionally walked James Wood’s Nick Goode, Dakota Orndorff hit a grounder to second and Cochran scored the game winner on an error by the Warriors (2-2, 0-1 Northwestern).

James Wood (4-1, 2-0) had four hits in the victory. Kris Malsch, Orndorff, Goode (a double) and KaCee Duggan each had hits for the Colonels.

Orndorff reached on an error, and later scored Wood’s first run after another error by the Warriors in the bottom of the second.

Orndorff (1-0) got the victory, working the final five innings in relief of starter Noah Keller. Keller pitched 41/3innings in a no-decision.

Michaud took the loss, pitching the final 22/3 innings in relief of Warrior starter Adam Whitacre, who allowed just one unearned run through seven innings.
