Warren chooses Penn Tech

James Wood first baseman Eli Warren was looking for a place to continue his baseball career and satisfy his desire to learn more about cyber-security.

He got both with the Pennsylvania College of Technology by signing a letter of intent on Wednesday with the Division III school, located in Williamsport, Pa.

Warren, who will receive a partial academic scholarship, has visited the campus at least six times over the past year.

“I really liked the atmosphere there,” said Warren. “It was a smaller school. I spoke to the coach (Christopher Howard) and I really got along with him really well. I love the campus and it just so happened to offer my major.”

Warren, who is batting .316 with a team-leading 11 RBIs for the Colonels this season, plans to major in information technology with a concentration in cyber-security.

“Back when I got my first cell phone and electronic device, I was always interested in technology,” Warren said. “As I grew older, I found that I like to do more and more with technology. When I started researching careers, I found that cyber-security was a really growing field.”

Warren will try to help a baseball squad that finished 13-23 overall and 4-9 in the Northeast Athletic Conference. “They’re still a growing team,” Warren said. “They could use a big bat on the team. I think they’re a great bunch of kids.”

Warren considered attending Christopher Newport, James Madison, Radford and Virginia Tech, but preferred the size of Penn College and baseball opportunities.

“I wanted to go to place where I had a chance to start my freshman year,” Warren. “In talking with (Howard), he said if I worked hard I would have a chance to start.”

Warren also is excited about the opportunity to be in Williamsport, home of the Little League World Series. “That’s going to be great,” Warren said. “I can’t wait to work with the Little League World Series. Being able to go see the games is going to be a great time.”
