Colonels fall short against Cougars
NOKESVILLE -- James Wood pitcher Cooper Franks, last season, pitched most often as a middle reliever or a closer.
Because he's a senior, though, Franks has moved into the Colonels' starting rotation. Without the power-hitting James Wood boasted a season ago, Colonels coach Jared Mounts said he needs leadership and experience in his pitching staff.
Franks gave James Wood a quality start, pitching all seven innings and giving up just five hits and one earned run in a 3-0 loss to Kettle Run on Monday in baseball action. He struck out five batters and walked just two.
But quality starts matter little without support from quality at-bats, and Franks earned his first loss of the season.
"We're headed in the right direction, we're getting better," Mounts said, "but we're not where we need to be."
