James Wood advances in conference boys' tennis tourney

WINCHESTER — The fourth-seeded James Wood boys’ tennis team defeated No. 5 Harrisonburg 5-2 in the Conference 21 West first round on Monday.

For the Colonels (9-7) in singles, Evan Dokken won 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 6-3 at No. 1, Noah Borromeo won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2, Stew Brondstater won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 and Conner Heustis won 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 at No. 6. Brondstater and Cole Creamer clinched the team win with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles.

James Wood will play at No. 1 Handley at 2 p.m. in today’s semifinals.
