Winchester — Sherando sophomore Kaleb Nguyen survived a four-hour, three-sit thriller that included two tiebreakers to defeat Handley senior John Adams for the Northwestern District boys’ singles championship on Friday at James Wood.
Nguyen won 7-6 (7-3), 5-7, 7-6 (7-5) to knock off the defending district singles champion Adams (16-2).
Nguyen (17-1 in singles) also teamed with Sherando freshman Trey Scott to help the Warriors sweep all three postseason district titles by winning the district doubles championship on Friday afternoon.
Nguyen and Scott (18-0 in doubles) defeated Handley’s team of Adams and Daniel Park in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 for the doubles title.
Nguyen and Scott, who won in both singles and doubles in the Warriors’ 5-4 victory over Handley in Thursday’s team championship, defeated Millbrook’s team of Trae Drexler and Ben Golden 6-2, 7-5 in Friday’s doubles semifinal round. Adams and Park rallied to defeat James Wood’s Thomas Wilson and Joe Damron 5-7, 7-5, 6-0 in the other semifinal.
