Boys' Tennis: NWD Tournament

WINCHESTER — Sherando’s Kaleb Nguyen and Handley’s Daniel Park each advanced to today’s Northwestern District boys’ singles final with semifinal wins Tuesday at the Winchester Country Club.

Nguyen, the No. 1 seed, beat No. 5 Geddy Zarzuela of Skyline 6-1, 6-0. Park (No. 2) beat No. 3 Matthew Cress of Millbrook 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).

Nguyen will face Park at noon today at Millbrook High School. Both will advance to next week’s Region II tournament at Kettle Run regardless of the outcome.

In doubles, the fourth-seeded James Wood team of Thom Schweitzer and Devin Carter advanced to today’s semifinals with a 6-2, 7-5 win against No. 5 Skyline. The Colonels will face Sherando at 1:30 p.m., also at Millbrook, with No. 2 Handley and No. 3 Millbrook in the other semifinal. The final will take place afterward.
