Five Locals Earn All-State Honors In Girls' Soccer

Four Clarke County players and James Wood senior forward Emily Denton earned Virginia High School League girls’ soccer all-state honors in selections announced on Tuesday.
The Eagles had three players make the first team and one make the second team in Group 2A. The first team features three sophomores — midfielder/forward Danielle Toone (32 goals, 25 assists), sophomore midfielder Sydney Staples (13 goals, 10 assists) and sophomore defender Rachel Brown (two goals, three assists). Clarke County senior midfielder/forward Hannah Ravenscroft (30 goals and seven assists) made the second team.
All four players were previously selected to the 2A East Region, Conference 35 and Bull Run District first teams.
Denton earned second team honors in Group 4A. She led all area public school players this year with 35 goals, and added 12 assists. Denton was previously selected to the 4A West Region first team and was named Conference 21 West Player of the Year.
