Clarke County girls net soccer win over James Wood

BERRYVILLE — The Clarke County girls’ soccer team scored two goals in the last 10 minutes of the game to break a tie game and win 5-3 over James Wood on Monday night at Feltner Stadium.

Danielle Toone (two goals, one assist) scored the game-winner in the 70th minute, and Maeve Lyman (one assist) added an insurance goal six minutes later to give the Eagles a season sweep over the Colonels (0-3).

Freshman Sophia Brown’s first career varsity goal and another goal from Vivian Hurtado in the 60th minute put the Eagles up 3-1 after the game was tied 1-1 at the half.

James Wood’s Abby Duck and Maddie Myers answered with goals in the ensuing five minutes to tie the game at 3-3.

Katie Padgett also had a goal for James Wood, which received six saves from Sadie Kerns. Clarke County had a 12-11 shot advantage and had eight saves from Bristen Broy. Sydney Staples added an assist for the Eagles.
