Girls' soccer: James Wood 1, Charlottesville 0

WINCHESTER — Delaney Newcome scored from close range in the 17th minute on a Jolie Jenkins pass from the right corner after dribbling through several players, and North top-seeded James Wood made that goal stand up in a Region 4D quarterfinal win over No. 4 Charlottesville on Wednesday.

The Colonels (13-1-3) will host No. 3 Orange County (12-4) in Friday's Region 4D semifinals. The Fighting Hornets and No. 2 Handley were tied 2-2 after 100 minutes of regulation and overtime, then won 3-2 in penalty kicks.

Alaynah McGuire had five saves.
