Girls' soccer: Judges' Worrell tabbed district Player of the Year
Handley junior forward Emeryce Worrell was named the Class 4 Northwestern District Player of the Year in selections announced Friday.
James Wood's Donavan Russell was named the Coach of the Year. He has guided the Colonels to a 14-1-3 record overall and a second-place finish in the district with a 6-1-1 mark.
Joining Worrell — who has verbally committed to Auburn University — on the First Team from Handley are junior forward Mia Hudson, senior midfielder Madison Hobson, senior defender Mia Kern, freshman defender Reese Craig and senior goalkeeper Alli Roberts.
Other First Team selections are James Wood junior forward Jolie Jenkins, senior midfielder McKenna Newcome, sophomore midfielder Avery Wright, senior defender Madeline Heustis and sophomore defender Meadow Falkner; Sherando senior forward Ella Sampsell, sophomore midfielder Olivia Lee and senior defender Averi Thomas; and Millbrook junior midfielder Molly Ludwig.
Second Team selections are: Millbrook: junior forward Kaitlyn Arthur, senior defender Mallory Upson, senior defender Brianna Ramos, sophomore defender Ella Mannarino, senior goalkeeper Skylar Decker; James Wood: junior forward Sloane Ferrebee, senior forward Jasmine Hackman, junior midfielder Madison Shirley; Sherando: senior forward Anna Hill, junior midfielder Sophia Straightiff, sophomore midfielder Sienna Forrer; Handley: freshman midfielder Lily Boula, senior defender Corin Edsell.
