GIRLS’ TENNIS - Colonels 6, Applemen 3

WINCHESTER — Ashley Hillyard, Haley Burke and Clarissa Nicely notched a pair of wins to lead James Wood to its first girls’ tennis victory of the season in a non-district match against Musselman (W.Va.) on Friday.

Hillyard won 8-2 over Camille Ratliff at No. 2 singles, and then teamed with Fae Schweitzer for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles. Burke won 8-6 over Vanessa Beddon at No. 4 singles, and Nicely won 8-0 over Destini Teng at No. 5 singles. James Wood’s Fernanda Franco won 8-4 at No. 6 singles.

Burke and Nicely also teamed for an 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles for the Colonels (1-2).
