BERRYVILLE — James Wood defeated Clarke County in the season opener for both teams Thursday.
The Colonels won five of six singles matches — Megan Hillyard (No. 1, 8-1), Taylin Crosen (No. 3, 8-2), Lily Kimble (No. 4, 8-6), Morgan Burner (No. 5, 8-5) and Courtney Dyer (No. 6, 8-3) each won.
Aaliyah McFarland won 8-5 at No. 2 singles for Clarke County.
