Nokesville — Handley junior Sarah Moomau defeated James Wood senior Kari Pope in straight sets 6-0, 6-2 to win the Northwestern District singles championship Friday at Kettle Run High School.

The Judges’ doubles team of Elizabeth Gardiner and Katie Gordon finished as the runner-up, losing in three sets 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 6-4 to Group AA defending state champions Pope and Headley Wilson of James Wood.

Gardiner and Gordon defeated Sherando’s team of Sarah Wolfe and Nicole Miller in the semifinals 6-3, 6-0.
