Girls' Tennis: NWD Tournament

WINCHESTER — James Wood’s Headley Wilson and Handley’s Sarah Moomau advanced to today’s Northwestern District girls’ singles final with semifinal wins Tuesday at the Winchester Country Club.

Wilson, the No. 1 seed, beat No. 4 Shannon Hoverter of Skyline 6-2, 6-0. Moomau, the No. 2 seed and defending district champion, beat No. 3 Sarah Wolfe of Sherando 6-1, 6-2.

Wilson will face Moomau today at noon at Millbrook High School. The duo split two regular season matches. Each will advance to next week’s Region II tournament at Dominion regardless of the outcome.

In doubles, Millbrook’s Alena Beasley and Blake Parkes (seeded fifth) advanced to the district semifinals with a 6-2, 6-3 over No. 4 Skyline. The Pioneers will face No. 1 Handley at 1:30 p.m. at Millbrook, with No. 2 Sherando and No. 3 James Wood playing in the other semifinal. The final will take place afterward.
