SOFTBALL: Colonels 16, Judges 1

WINCHESTER — James Wood scored in every inning, including five in the fourth, to beat Handley in a Northwestern District game shortened to five innings at Henkel-Harris Field Thursday.

The Colonels (6-7, 5-3 Northwestern) were led by Laura Gates, who got her first six RBIs of the season in a 3-for-4 performance that also included three runs and a double. Hayley Whitacre had a three-RBI double, Jessy Shipman went 1 for 3 with two runs, two RBIs and two walks, McKenzie Garrett had two runs, an RBI, and a triple, and Kierstyn Peacoe (5-5) pitched a complete game and allowed three hits and one walk while striking out five.

Ashley Siburt had two hits and a run for the Judges (1-10, 0-7).
