The Winchester Star
James Wood High School 18-year-old senior
Sport: Softball. Position: Center field
Parents: James and Jeanette Woolsey. Hometown: Dutchess County, N.Y., moved here when I was in eighth grade
Nickname: T-Woolz, everybody calls me that, even my coach. I guess it’s catchier.
What to you love about softball: We all have different strengths. We’re not all good at the same thing, but we apply it to achieve a common goal.
Most memorable moment in softball: My last year of Little League in All-Stars, I hit a home run to win the game. It was in the second round of sectionals. It was a big game.
Most embarrassing moment in softball: In eighth grade, I hit a line drive foul and it hit a baby and the baby wasn’t responding. It was really sad. It was probably the most scary and embarrassing moment in my life. The baby was OK.
Three people you can have dinner with, dead or alive: Derek Jeter, because he’s my favorite baseball player; Bryce Harper, because he’s the face of baseball right now; and Tom Petty, just because I love his music.
If you were stranded on an island, what’s the one thing you’d want to have with you: Just a big bulk of food because when I’m bored I’m hungry.
Favorite teacher: It’s a substitute teacher, Mr. [Brian] Levi because he’s fun and he’s easy to talk to. He’s been my sub a lot.
Favorite athlete: Derek Jeter
Favorite sports team: New York Yankees
Best live sporting event you’ve been to: This past year I went to a Giants-Redskins game. It was my first one-ever. The Redskins won, sadly. The Giants were making a comeback, but it didn’t happen.
Favorite movie: “50 First Dates”
Favorite Book: “The Hunger Games,” by Suzanne Collins
Favorite song: “Life’s Been Good,” by Joe Walsh.
Favorite website: Instagram
Plans after high school: I’m going to attend JMU for four years and major in kinesiology and exercise science. I’ve kind of just picked up on working out by myself and looking for new ways [to work out]. Pretty much my whole Instagram feed is workout people.
