Spielman to play softball at Shepherd
James Wood’s Lani Spielman and Sherando’s Tori Seymour each signed National Letters of Intent to play softball next year at NCAA Division II Shepherd University in ceremonies on Monday at their respective high schools.
Both players will receive partial scholarships to play for the Rams.
Spielman is an infielder and pitcher. She hit .443 with 24 RBIs and six doubles last year at the plate and posted an 8- 2 record with a 2.77 ERA and 65 strikeouts in 502⁄ 3 innings in the pitcher’s circle. She was a second team Conference 21 West selection at both infielder and pitcher.
An infielder, Seymour hit .375 and led the Warriors in both RBIs (23) and runs (25). She hit five home runs and had 10 doubles. She was a first team All-Conference 21 West selection.
Shepherd competes in the Mountain East Conference and went 41-22 overall (21-11 MEC). The Rams went 3-2 in the Atlantic Regionals, where they were eliminated by West Chester. Shepherd will be guided by a new coach this year in Marissa Leslie. She spent the last three years as an assistant softball coach at West Virginia Wesleyan. The Bobcats played in the NCAA Division II College World Series this year.
