Softball: James Wood 2, Tuscarora 0
LEESBURG — Jenna Shull and Sophia Gerald combined on a two-hit shutout to lead James Wood — which scored both of its runs in the top of the first inning — to a season sweep of Tuscarora on Monday.
Shull pitched five perfect innings, then allowed a walk, recorded a strikeout and allowed a hit in the bottom of the sixth inning for the Colonels (11-2). Gerald came in and gave up a bunt single to load the bases, but she induced a popout and flyout to end the inning. Gerald then pitched a perfect seventh.
In the first, Cadence Rieg had the first of her three walks, Brynnen Williams (2-for-4) singled, and both moved up a base on a passed ball. Aliza Judd (1-for-2) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Skyla Compton had an RBI groundout to bring in Williams from third.
Emma Parker went 1-for-2 with a walk for the Colonels.
