Softball: James Wood sweeps Judges
WINCHESTER — James Wood swept a doubleheader with Handley to end the regular season, rolling 23-0 and 20-0 in a pair of five inning no-hitters.
In the opener, Jenna Shull, Kati Brannon and Emma Hild combined for a no-hitter. Shull struck out eight and walked two in three innings. Brannon (two walks) and Hild (one walk) each struck out three in one inning of relief.
Cadence Rieg and Brannon each belted homers for the Colonels, who scored 10 runs in the second inning to take a 13-0 lead.
In the second game, Brannon, the area's home run leader, blasted two more longballs, including a grand slam in a nine-run first inning.
Rieg allowed a walk and struck out seven over three innings. Sophia Gerald struck out two in four innings against the Judges (1-19).
North top-seeded James Wood (17-3) will host a Region 4D quarterfinal clash against No. 4 Millbrook (11-7) on Wednesday.
