Softball: Wood's Rieg, Sherando's Wray named Co-POY

James Wood senior pitcher and outfielder Cadence Rieg and Sherando sophomore pitcher and second baseman Lily Wray were announced as the Class 4 Northwestern District Co-Players of the Year on Friday.

Rieg — who will play for Shenandoah University next year — and Wray were both selected to the First Team as pitchers.

Liberty's Chris Leatherman was named the Coach of the Year. The Eagles went 7-9 overall and placed fourth out of five teams in the district with a 3-5 record. Liberty did not qualify for the region tournament.

Rieg is joined on the First Team by teammates Aliza Judd, a junior catcher, freshman second baseman Kati Brannon, sophomore shortstop Brynnen Williams and senior outfielder Skyla Compton. Other Warriors on the First Team are sophomore Makayla Williams (selected as a co-designated player/flex), senior outfielders Abby Vadnais and Anna Borst, and sophomore outfielder Mady Cox. 

Millbrook's First Team selections are sophomore pitcher Emma Martin, freshman first baseman Kaylen Giza and junior third baseman Jazmin Orr.

Second Team selections are: Millbrook: freshman first baseman Lexi Edwards; senior shortstop Alexis McFarland, junior DP/flex Allie Simmons, sophomore outfielder Rowan McCullough, sophomore outfielder Kimber Rudolph; James Wood: senior pitcher Jenna Shull, freshman pitcher Sophia Gerald; Sherando: junior catcher Kayla Grum; freshman second baseman Leighanne Lowe.
