Three area softball players make All-State in Class 4

crJames Wood’s Cadence Rieg and Millbrook’s Emma Martin were selected to the First Team and Sherando’s Lily Wray was a Second Team pick as the Virginia High School League announced its Class 4 All-State teams on Monday.

Rieg, a senior who will play for Shenandoah University next season, was a selection in the outfield. Rieg both pitched and played center field for the Colonels, who advanced to the Class 4 quarterfinals. Rieg hit .444 with six homers and 18 RBIs out of the leadoff spot for the Colonels. She scored 35 runs and had a .541 on-base percentage. In the circle, Rieg went 7-1 with a 1.85 ERA and struck out 57 batters in 56.2 innings.

Martin, a sophomore, was the Pioneers’ primary pitcher and saw time in the outfield and was named as a designated player on the First Team. At the plate, Martin hit .448 with two homers and 20 RBIs and had a .522 on-base percentage. In the circle, she was 7-7 with a 4.25 ERA. In 85.2 innings, she struck out 133 batters.

Wray, a sophomore, made the Second Team as a pitcher. The Warriors standout went 10-4 with a 1.04 ERA. She struck out 131 and walked just five hitters in 94 innings. At the plate, Wray hit .375 with 22 RBIs.

Woodgrove senior pitcher Abbey Lane was the Player of the Year and the Wolverines’ Joe Spicer was Coach of the Year after leading the team to a state title.
