Winchester — Lauren Yaider went 2 for 4 with a double and scored a pair of runs, including the game winner in the eighth inning to lift Handley over James Wood in the Northwestern District tournament play-in game Friday night.
Yaider reached on an error and moved to second on the overthrow. She scored the winning run after James Wood (3-18) committed another error on a sacrifice bunt by Megan Strother. Ali Fritts had a pair of hits, including the game-tying RBI single in the sixth to make it 1-1.
Ashley Siburt went 2 for 3 for the Judges (3-18).
Chelsea Hamric allowed four hits and struck out nine in the victory.
James Wood’s Megan Christian had an RBI single that scored Felicity Eiland.
Lauren Myers allowed two runs (one earned) and struck out seven in the loss. It was Myers’ fourth straight game without allowing a walk.
Handley faces top-seeded Sherando today at 1 p.m. in the district semifinals at Skyline High School.
